SmartClamps™

SmartClamps™

  • This section defines and provides resolutions for common hardware issues for the SmartClamps™ which hold the matboard in place while cutting on the CMC Z Series.

  • SmartClamps™ Definition: The SmartClamps™ are spaced Vertically along the left side of the Board and Horizontally along the bottom of the Board, securely holding the matboard in place while cutting on the CMC Z Series.

Usage:

  • Before cutting, the CMC will do an interference check to see if any of the SmartClamps are obstructing the current cut sequence.

  • If a SmartClamp interferes, its LED turns Red.

  • The interfering Clamp is highlighted in Red on the Cut Preview screen.

  • The user is then prompted to rotate the SmartClamp 180° so that it retracts into the Board while cutting, ensuring zero waste.

  • Use the Mat Alignment Plate between the smaller mat piece and the Board Rail to provide support during cutting if the material does not span across at least two SmartClamps.

  • The SmartClamp pressure can be set to Standard Pressure or Low Pressure with the Mat Clamp Pressure Knob on the Control Panel.

  • The remaining SmartClamps will clamp onto the matboard to secure it in place while cutting.

  • After cutting, the SmartClamps disengage, allowing for easy matboard removal.

  • Rotate the previously rotated SmartClamps back into their original position.

Connections:

  • The Vertical SmartClamps are located along the left side of the Board, just to the right of the Gantry when in the Home position.

  • The Horizontal SmartClamps are located along the bottom of the Board above the Board Rail.

  • The SmartClamps pressure can be set to Standard Pressure or Low Pressure with the Mat Clamp Pressure Knob on the Control Panel.

Controlled by/Controls:

  • The SmartClamps are controlled by the Air Compressor, the Air Regulator, the Air Valve Assembly in the Gantry and the ECU/Driver Pack signals.

  • The Gantry controls the Head Z-Axis, Gantry X and Y-Axis, Head Lift/Drop, Footblock Rotation and Clamp Activation.

  • The ECU/Driver Pack is a computerized component that manages the electrical subsystems, regulating signals and powering the CMC and its functions.

  • The Mat Clamp Pressure Knob on the Control Panel sets the SmartClamps Pressure between Standard and 50% for delicate material.

  • Individual SmartClamps must be manually rotated out of the way by the user as prompted on the Cut Preview.
