Interior Backup on Drops

The Interior Backup is where the blade backs up before initially plunging into the fallout of the opening, such as when cutting a French Stair. 

Interior Cuts cut into the fallout of the opening, not the matboard. 

The Interior Backup Field Controls Where the Blade Backs up Before Plunging into the Fallout on the Interior Cuts of Non-Oval Drops

Current Drop Bevel Type

Current Drop Bevel Type

Select the desired Cartridge Tab and then the bevel type you want to edit from the Current Bevel Type dropdown control before making adjustments. Select Current Bevel Type-Front of Mat if it is being cut from the front of the mat.

  • Normal Drop

  • Reverse Drop

  • Normal Drop-Front of Mat,

  • Reverse Drop-Front of Mat

Select the Desired Bevel Type From the Bevel Type Dropdown Control

The Interior Backup is displayed on the Configuration Map and on the associated field as a black arrow. 

The Interior Backup is Displayed as a Black Arrow

Check against the Configuration Map of the Bevel Type you are cutting to determine specifically which cuts are the Interior Backups.

Interior Cuts, such as on French Stairs, cut into the fallout of the opening, not the matboard. 

Compare to the Configuration Map to See Which Corners are the Interior Backups

This is viewed from the front of the mat. If the Interior Backup plunges the blade too soon, it makes the interior backup too long.

Interior Backups for Non-Oval Drops are Cut too Long

Decrease the Interior Backup

The corners will now meet up properly.

Continue by Test Cutting and Adjusting the Interior Backup of the Drop Until the Corners Are Cut Correctly

When making adjustments, click either the minus or plus button (-/+) at the end of the desired field about five or six times in the direction indicated. Click OK and do a test cut. Check the results of the cut and continue making adjustments until the desired outcome is achieved.

This is viewed from the front of the mat. If the Interior Backup plunges the blade too late, it makes the interior backup too short.
