Backup and Overcut Illustration

Adjust the Backups and Overcuts to control specifically where the blade plunges into and retracts from the matboard or the fallout when cutting an opening.

The different bevel types, including whether it is being cut from the front or the back, will determine the direction the head travels as it cuts, and dictate whether the corner is a backup or an overcut.

The Backups and Overcuts Fields Control Specifically Where the Blade Plunges into and Retracts From the Matboard or Fallout

Make sure to select the desired Cartridge Tab, then select the bevel type you want to edit from the Current Bevel Type dropdown control before making adjustments.

The Exterior Backup field, (marked with a green arrow), is where the blade backs up before initially plunging into the matboard on the exterior cuts, such as when cutting a rectangle. 

Exterior Cuts cut into the matboard, not the fallout.

The Exterior Overcut field, (marked with a red arrow), is where the cut continues into the corner before retracting the blade from the matboard on the exterior cuts, such as when cutting a rectangle.
