This will walk you through designing a Template opening and using the same Template shape to create the Outside. For this example, we will make a Polygon Opening with a Polygon Outside.
The Template Opening with the Same Template Shape Outsides
Click New Mat Design on the FrameShop Main Page. Click Cancel on the New Openings Screen. On the Openings Tab, bring the template #506: Star template onto the Editor. Click on the Properties Tab to edit it. Enter the desired size for the #506: Star opening.
Place the #506: Star Template and Size it
Click on the Parameters tab. Under No. of Points put the desired number of points for this Polygon design. 3 - Triangle 4 - Quadrilateral 5 - Pentagon 6 - Hexagon 7 - Heptagon 8 - Octagon 9 - Nonagon 10 - Decagon Etc…
For this example, we will use 7 points. Under Spikiness, put 0. Now there is no Spikiness and the lines are flat between the points.
Set the Number of Points and the Spikiness
Mode 0 - Size scaled to fit Opening size. Mode 1 - Width and Height the same, using Opening Width. Mode 2 - Width and Height the same, using Line Length parameter. Line Length - Side length of each star point, only used for Mode 2.
The Template Parameter Map Button Displays a Description of the Parameters for the Current Template
Enter the Desired Mode and Line Length if Applicable
Rotate the Polygon if Desired
For this example, we want it to be 2 Layers with an Outside Border of 2.5”. Click on Reveals and change the Number of Layers to 3.
Add One More Layer to the Number of Layers You Want to Use for the Outside
Set the Reveal for the Outside of the Mat

The Polygon design with the same Polygon outside is now completed. When you cut it, do not select to Cut the Outside. Instead, cut the Opening then without moving the mat, cut the Outside Layer on top of it.
