Template Opening with a Matching Outside Shape

Template Opening with a Matching Outside Shape

  • This will walk you through designing a Template opening and using the same Template shape to create the Outside.

  • For this example, we will make a Polygon Opening with a Polygon Outside.

    • This will work with most Template shapes.

  • Click on the Parameters tab.

  • Under No. of Points put the desired number of points for this Polygon design.

    • 3 - Triangle

    • 5 - Pentagon

    • 6 - Hexagon

    • 7 - Heptagon

    • 8 - Octagon

    • 9 - Nonagon

    • 10 - Decagon

    • Etc…

  • For this example, we will use 7 points.

  • Under Spikiness, put 0.

  • Now there is no Spikiness and the lines are flat between the points.

  • If you click on the Template Parameter Map button, you will see that there are Three Modes to this particular template.

  • Mode 0 - Size scaled to fit Opening size.

  • Mode 1 - Width and Height the same, using Opening Width.

  • Mode 2 - Width and Height the same, using Line Length parameter.

  • Line Length - Side length of each star point, only used for Mode 2.

Enter the Desired Mode and Line Length if Applicable
  • If needed for your particular project, you can Rotate the Polygon with the Rotation field.

    • For this example, we will leave it unrotated.

  • For this example, we want it to be 2 Layers with an Outside Border of 2.5”.

  • Click on Reveals and change the Number of Layers to 3.

    • Two layers are for our opening and other layer will be the outside dimensions.

  • The Polygon design with the same Polygon outside is now completed.

  • When you cut it, do not select to Cut the Outside.

  • Instead, cut the Opening then without moving the mat, cut the Outside Layer on top of it.
