Changing the Pen in the Pen Cartridge

  • The pen tool cartridge is unlabeled and is black with a metal pen holder column attached to the base.

  • The pen icon within the software is a small black stylus symbol.

  • Push the blade cartridge release lever to eject the current cartridge.

  • Turn the pen holder locking screw counter-clockwise to loosen it and slide the pen locking bolt away from the cartridge base.

  • Remove the existing pen by extracting it from the pen holder.

  • Replace with a new pen by placing the tip in first and inserting the pen into the pen holder.

  • If necessary for this pen, unlock the pen cartridge locking screw and slide the pen cartridge to line up to the desired indicator line on the pen holder as specified on the pen description. 

  • Tighten the locking screw back into position.

  • Slide the pen locking bolt back into place and tighten the pen holder locking screw clockwise to lock it into place.

Installing the Pen Tool Cartridge

  • Make sure the Head and Footblock are already in the Aligned position. Click the Align the Head CMC Z1 button if necessary.  

  • Push the blade cartridge release lever to eject the current cartridge.

  • Place the pen cartridge into the head. The pen holder should be to the right, with the pen tip facing toward the CMC and the pen cartridge locking screw on the top, until it clicks into place.  It can only be inserted one way.

  • If you have not calibrated this particular pen before, refer to “Install Pen: Set the Pen Tool Cartridge Depth Setting on the CMC Z1”

  • If the pen is not going to be used for a while, please remove it from the pen holder and replace the pen cap to keep the pen from drying out.
