Drive Belt Position Alignment: All Current CMC Models

Check Squareness by Comparing Drive Belt Lines

  • If the Red Lines on the Drive Belt do not line up to the Red Lines on the Toothed Pulley on the Gantry, it shows that the Drive Belt has skipped a tooth and that the cuts will be out of square.

  • Remove the Gantry Covers by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place and set aside.

Remove the Gantry Covers
  • Move the Gantry to the right and back to the far left.

  • Looking at the upper Drive Belt, slowly move the Gantry toward the right again until you see a Red Line on the Drive Belt.

  • Confirm that the Red Line lines up with the Red Line on the Toothed Pulley.

  • Without moving the Gantry, look at the lower Drive Belt and make sure the Red Lines line up on the Drive Belt and the Toothed Pulley.

  • Determine which one does not line up, top or bottom Drive Belt, and we will adjust the Drive Belt of the one that does not line up.

Loosening the Drive Belt

  • For this example, we will be loosening the lower Drive Belt because the marks on the lower Drive Belt do not line up.

  • Remove the 5/32” Allen screws and washers from the lower Gantry Plate.

    • These were placed here to assist in loosening the Belt Tensioner.

  • Look for Red Dots (only these screws are to be adjusted).

  • Loosen one full turn only the 3/16” Allen Belt Tensioner Screw located on the right bottom side of the lower Board Rail marked with a red dot.

  • Only loosen it so that there is some movement in the Belt Tensioner; about one full turn.

  • WARNING: Do not over loosen this screw. One full turn is usually sufficient.

  • Using the slack we have created on the bottom Drive Belt, pull the Drive Belt around the Toothed Pulley, making sure that the Red Lines line up.

  • You may need to manually move the Drive Belt over to the correct tooth to line up the Red Lines.

Horizontal Home

  • Do a test cut. Cut a 2x2 square, with 2” Borders, NOT cutting the outside. Measure the Border to the opening and make sure it measures 2”. If it does not, adjust the Horizontal Home in the Configurations Screen accordingly.

  • Do another test cut. Continue making adjustments until it measures 2”. If you need assistance, call Technical Support.

Confirm the Gantry is Straight

  • Make sure that the Gantry is straight.

    • Cut a rectangle that is about 2x24”, NOT cutting the outside, with 2” Borders.

  • Measure the Borders to the opening at the bottom of the mat closest to the vertical clamps, then measure the Borders to the opening at the top of the mat closest to the vertical clamps.

  • If the Borders are not measuring 2” in both places, call Technical Support for assistance.

If Cuts are Still out of Square

  • See Fine-Tune Drive Belt Position to reset the Drive Belt Position if the CMC is cutting out of square and the Red Lines on the Drive Belt line up to the Red Lines on the Toothed Pulley.
