Definitions | |

Backup Definition Backup is where the blade plunges into the matboard. If the backup is too long it can leave a visible cut on the face of the mat. If the backup is too short it can leave a hook or an incomplete cut. An exterior backup cuts into the matboard itself. An interior backup cuts into the fallout, such as in French Stairs.
Overcut Definition Overcut is where the blade comes out of the matboard. If the overcut is too long it can leave a visible cut on the face of the mat. If the overcut is too short it can leave a hook or an incomplete cut. An exterior overcut cuts into the matboard itself. An interior overcut cuts into the fallout, as in French Stairs.
Cutting Side Make sure matboard nestles tightly into horizontal and vertical clamps of the CMC.
Back of mat Back means to cut from back of mat. Place back of mat toward user, facing away from CMC.
Front of mat Front means to cut from front of mat. Place front of mat toward user, facing away from CMC. |
