Make a Name Plate V-Groove

  • This lesson shows how to put a V-Groove around a Name Plate Template, or make a V-Groove follow a different shape.

Design Opening in FrameShop

  • First we need to make sure we are designing the layers in the correct order for these instructions.

  • On the FrameShop Main Page, click Admin and stay on the Defaults tab.

  • Under Layer Direction select Bottom Up if it is not already set to that.

  • Click Save and return to the Main Page.

    • You can change this back to the original setting later if desired.

  • Layer Direction: Bottom Up is the preferred direction.

    • When you Offset an object to create another layer, that new layer will be the Top layer.

  • Layer Direction: Top Down is not recommended.

    • When you Offset an object to create another layer, that new layer will be the Bottom layer, even though it is larger than the original object.

  • Place a two Layer 4 x 5 #906 Rectangle Key Template on the FrameShop Design Editor

  • Click on Properties.

  • Click on the Key tab.

  • Change the Key Reveal to .5” (1/2").

    • This reveal will be part of the V-Groove.

Templates Definition
  • Templates are specialized parametric shape generators created by Wizard that can be cut or applied with the non-blade cartridges.

  • Click on the Parameters tab.

  • Change the NPHeight to .75" (3/4").

  • Change the Distance of the Key to 1.25" (1 1/4").

Parameters
  • The Parameters are a set of specified variable characteristics related to the selected object that can be modified through the accompanying fields in the associated Design screen.

Positioning Toggle Definition

Place a Guide

  • Now we will place a Guide that we can use to align our V-Groove.

Guide
  • A Guide is a Red Line marker used as a reference to help align and position objects, allowing them to snap into place along the Guide.

  • Click the checkbox for Add at Bottom.

  • Enter half the NPHeight which would be at .375.

    • Since we want the Guide to move upwards into the opening, we would enter a Negative number.

    • Enter -.375 for the Distance From Bottom field and click OK.

  • A Guide is placed at the Bottom of the design positioned from the Bottom Layer.

Place a V-Groove

  • Now we will place a V-Groove halfway through the Nameplate opening.

  • Make sure that the opening is selected.

  • Click on the Openings tab.

  • Click the Add V-Groove button.

  • Enter 1" for the Offset value and click OK.

45 Degree Normal Bevel Closed V-Groove
  • A 45° Normal Bevel Closed V-Groove involves two symmetrical cuts: one in the matboard and a corresponding cut in the fallout, both forming a mirrored arrangement.

    • The matboard is cut halfway through its thickness, revealing the core from the front.
