45 Degree Plus Reverse Bevel Drop Definition

 45°+ Reverse Bevel Drop Full Definition

The 45°+ Reverse Bevel Drop is created by cutting into the thicker fallout surface with the blade angled at 45°, thereby slanting the bevel under the fallout surface. The matboard core is not visible from the front.

The Drop is one of the categories within certain opening styles, like the initial section cut of an Open V-Groove. However, it cannot be chosen as a standalone bevel type within Designer.

The Bevel Type refers to the angle at which the blade cuts the surface of the matboard when it deviates from the 90° right angle cut.

Select Reverse Drop or Reverse Drop-Front of Mat from the Current Bevel Type dropdown control to edit this configuration.

 45°+ Reverse Bevel Open V-Groove Full Definition

The 45°+ Reverse Bevel Open V-Groove involves two symmetrical cuts: one in the fallout and a corresponding cut in the matboard, both forming a mirrored arrangement a specified distance apart. The matboard core is not visible but the lower layer matboard is visible from the front.

First Cut: Cuts the Interior cut into the Fallout Clockwise: Reverse Bevel Drop*.

Second Cut: Cuts the Exterior cut into the Matboard Counter-Clockwise: Reverse Bevel Opening.

*The Drop is one of the categories within certain opening styles, like the initial section cut of an Open V-Groove. However, it cannot be chosen as a standalone bevel type within Designer.

Select Reverse Drop or Reverse Drop-Front of Mat from the Current Bevel Type dropdown control to edit the interior cut configuration.

 When Cutting from the Front

Cutting from the Front will cut with the face of the mat toward the operator, and can be selected on the Cutting Preview.

Configurations cut from the Back will only display the bevel type name with no further label; i.e., Normal Bevel.

If you are cutting an element that must be applied to the front of the mat, such as a V-Groove or Pen design, any openings on that layer will also cut from the front and use the Front of Mat configuration item; i.e., Normal Bevel - Front of Mat.

So if you are having problems with a Normal Bevel cut on the same layer as a V-Groove, make sure you select Normal Bevel - Front of Mat to edit the configurations for that opening.  

 How to Adjust the Configurations

When adjusting Configurations, click the Plus (Increase) or Minus (Decrease) button on the desired field about five times.

Click OK and do another test cut.

Continue making adjustments until the desired outcome is achieved.

45 Degree Plus Drop Cuts Wrong Depth When Using a SKU

  • If the Blade Depth is cut Too Deep, Decrease the Depth Bias.

  • If the Blade Depth is cut Too Shallow, Increase the Depth Bias.

 Depth Bias Definition

The Depth Bias is used to calculate the proper Blade Depth when the SKU selected for the matboard contains the Matboard Thickness.

The formula is: [(Default Depth) - 10]

For example, if the normal Blade Depth for 4-ply is 11, then 11-10=1, so enter 1 for the Depth Bias.

  • The Plunge Count controls the number of Blade Plunges for each Blade Cartridge before pausing for a Blade Change.

  1. Adjust the Plunge Count in the Configuration Screen.

  2. Toggle the Plunge Count to On in the Cut Preview.

 Exterior Backup on Drops Definition

The Exterior Backup controls where the Blade Plunges into the Matboard (not the Fallout) on the Exterior cuts of Drops. The initial plunge position is determined by the bevel type.

The Exterior Cut is where the Blade Plunges or Retracts from the Matboard (not the Fallout).  

If the Exterior Backup is leaving a Hook in the corner, Increase the Exterior Backup.

If the Exterior Backup is cut Too Long, Decrease the Exterior Backup.

If the Exterior Backup is cut Too Short, Increase the Exterior Backup.

The Exterior Backup field is marked with a Green Arrow on the Configuration screen and the Map illustration.
