Air Clamp Temporary Fix: CMC Models with Air Clamp Rails

Air Clamp Temporary Fix: CMC Models with Air Clamp Rails

  • Customer has a blown an Air Clamp on their 5000, 8000 or 8500 and is waiting for the replacement to arrive.

  • This temporary fix will keep the machine running until the replacement arrives.

  • Determine if it is the Horizontal or the Vertical Air Clamp that has blown.

  • If necessary, run a large mat without the Blade in the Blade Cartridge (Blade Cartridge must still be inserted into the Head) and listen for air escaping.

  • Turn off the air supply.

  • Move the Gantry to the right until it moves no further.

  • Remove the Horizontal or Vertical Clamp Air Clamp Rail mounting screws with a #2 Phillips on the 8500/8000 Model, an 1/8’’ Allen on the 5000 model.

Unscrew Rail Screws
  • Loosen the 7/64” Allen Screw holding the Air Clamp, and gently lift Vertical/Horizontal Air Clamp Rail to view small air hose fitting.

  • Lift the Air Clamp fitting from its groove and disconnect it by unscrewing the two halves.

    • Note that the CMC 5000 air fitting is straight, and the CMC 8000/8500 is an elbow fitting.

    • On later machines, simply pull the two hoses apart.

Locate the Air Clamp Inside the Rail
  • Insert a screw into the Air Line and replace the Air Clamp fitting into the Air Clamp Rail.

Setting Up the Temporary Fix
  • Replace the Air Clamp Rail onto the Board using the screws we removed previously and turn on the air supply.

  • The screw into the Air Line will keep the up the air pressure so that the other Air Clamp will still inflate and hold the matboard down until the replacement arrives.
