Check Air Line Connection

  • The same Air Valve is used on various CMC models.

  • Check the Air Line connection on the Air Valve Assembly replacement sent to you.

  • The Air Line marked “X” will connect to one of two Air Lines:

    • For the CMC 8500eSBT/8500/8000/8000RC, the Air Line marked “X” should be connected to the Black Banded Air Line.

    • For the CMC Z1/9000z/9000/8000 Plus, the Air Line marked “X” should be connected to the Clear Air Line.

  • If it is not already set for your specific CMC hardware, unscrew the Air Line marked “X” from the current Air Line by untwisting the Air Line connectors and reconnect it to the correct Air Line, either Black Banded or Clear.

  • If the wrong Air Line is connected, the Head will unplunge when it should plunge.

Step 1: Turn Off Air and Remove Gantry Cover

  • Turn off the Computer and the Air Supply.

  • Remove the Gantry Cover by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place and set it aside.

Step 2: Unscrew Air Valve Assembly From the Gantry

  • Locate the Air Valve Assembly on the top left side of the Gantry by standing in front of the Gantry and looking straight through the wires and Air Lines to the back plate of the Gantry.

Locate the Air Valve Assembly
  • Locate the two Allen screws holding the Air Valve Assembly in place.

    • Do not adjust the other two screws on the Air Valve Assembly.

  • Use a 7/64” Allen T-Handle wrench to remove the two screws securing the Air Valve Assembly to the Gantry.

  • Take note that these screws are tight and may be difficult to remove.

  • Save the screws.

Step 3: Unplug Power Plugs

Before unplugging the Air Valve Assembly Power Plugs, note the position of each one.

  • The Bottom Plug closest to the back of the Gantry has a Red Plastic Marker.

  • The Middle Plug has a Clear/White Plastic Marker.

  • The Top Plug has No Marker at all.

  • Note: Two of the Air Lines of the Air Valve Assembly may be connected underneath a set of wires.

  • If the Air Line does not have connectors, this Air Line may need to be cut in order to remove the Air Valve Assembly.

    • Cut with caution, and make sure no wires are cut.

If the Air Valve Assembly Does not Have Connectors, You May Have to Cut This Airline

Step 5: Screw in the Replacement Air Valve Assembly to the Gantry

  • Take the screws from the old Air Valve Assembly and place them into the new one.

  • Line up the screws to the screw holes in the back of the Gantry and screw the Air Valve Assembly to the Gantry.

  • Screw one screw in partially and then the other to ensure proper alignment, then go back and tighten them.

  • For information on the three unlabeled Air Lines, see “Check Air Line Connection” at the beginning of this document.

The Three Unlabeled Air Lines are Described at the Beginning of this Document
  • Red Air Line to red Air Line.

  • Blue Air Line to blue Air Line.

  • Clear Blue Air Line to clear blue Air Line.

  • Clear Red Air Line to clear red Air Line.

  • The extra Air Line that we didn’t use is intended for a different CMC model, and thus won’t be connected.

  • Note: The Air Lines may need to be moved gently aside so as not to pinch the Air Lines when putting the Gantry Cover back on.

Step 7: Attach the Power Plugs

  • Note the position of each Air Assembly Power Plug before plugging it into the Air Valve Assembly.

  • Plug in each Power Plug by squeezing it gently and pushing it straight into the housing.

    • The Plug with the Red Marker gets plugged into the Bottom Plug closest to the back of the Gantry.

    • The Plug with the Clear/White Marker gets plugged into the Middle Plug.

If the Head Plunges When it Should Unplunge

  • If the wrong Air Line is connected, the Head will plunge when it should unplunge, and vice-versa.

  • See “Check Air Line Connection” at the beginning of this document for instructions on how to resolve this.
