How to Make a Template with the Same Template Outside Shape

  • This will walk you through designing a Template opening and using the same Template to create the Outside Shape.

  • For this example, we will make a Polygon shape with a Polygon Outside Shape.

    • This will work with most Template shapes.

  • Click New Mat Design on the FrameShop Main Page.

  • Click Cancel on the New Openings Screen.

  • On the Openings Tab, bring the template #506: Star template onto the Editor.

  • Click on the Properties Tab to edit it.

  • Enter the desired size for the #506: Star opening.

  • Click on the Parameters tab.

  • Under No. of Points put the desired number of points for this Polygon design.

    • 3 - Triangle

    • 4 - Quadrilateral

    • 5 - Pentagon

    • 6 - Hexagon

    • 7 - Heptagon

    • 8 - Octagon

    • 9 - Nonagon

    • 10 - Decagon

    • Etc…

  • For this example, we will use 7 points.

  • Under Spikiness, put 0.

  • Now there is no Spikiness and the lines are flat between the points.

  • If you click on the Template Parameter Map button, you will see that there are Three Modes to this particular template.

  • Mode 0 - Size scaled to fit Opening size.

  • Mode 1 - Width and Height the same, using Opening Width.

  • Mode 2 - Width and Height the same, using Line Length parameter.

  • Line Length - Side length of each star point, only used for Mode 2.

506StarPolygonModeMap800.png
  • For this example, we will select Mode 2.

  • Leave the Line Length at 2.

  • If needed for your particular project, you can Rotate the Polygon with the Rotation field.

    • For this example, we will leave it unrotated.

506StarPolygonRotate800.png
  • For this example, we want it to be 2 Layers with an Outside Border of 2.5”.

  • Click on Reveals and change the Number of Layers to 3.

    • Two layers are for our opening and other layer will be the outside dimensions.

506StarPolygonOutsideLayers800.png
  • Change the Reveal for the Outside Layer to be 2.5.

    • This will be our outside dimensions.

506StarPolygonOutsideReveal800.png
  • Select the top layer and change it to use the 90° cartridge.

    • This layer represents our outside cut for this design.

506StarPolygonOutside90800.png
  • The Polygon design with the same Polygon outside is now completed.

  • When you cut it, do not select to Cut the Outside.

  • Instead, cut the Opening then without moving the mat, cut the Outside Layer on top of it.

  • This will give you the finished design.
