Circle/Oval Rotation Utility

The Circle/Oval Rotation utility is a more detailed calibration feature than adjusting the Oval Rotation field alone because it allows for adjustments for a variety of different sized ovals.

Circle/Oval Rotation Screen

Select the desired Cartridge Type Tab on the Configurations screen.

Click the Circle/Oval Rotation button.

Select the Bevel Type Cutting Direction for the bevel type you are editing from the upper left dropdown control.

See Bevel Type Cutting Direction for information on the cutting direction for the different bevel types.

Put in an 11x12" mat into the CMC and click Cut.

Align the Head if necessary.

After it cuts, check the cuts and determine if you are getting a Bump or a Feather for any of the oval sizes that were cut.

Bump

A Bump forms when the blade returns to the outside of the starting point because the Oval Rotation is too low. Increase the Oval Rotation.

Bump displays on the circle where the blade returns to the outside of the starting point.

Select the desired oval size listing and increase the Oval Rotation value by moving the slidebar of the oval size to the right.

This is like increasing the Oval Rotation field on the Configurations screen, but is specific to this particular oval size.

Do another test cut. Keep making adjustments until the ovals cut out as expected.

Feather

A Feather forms when the blade returns to the inside of the starting point because the Oval Rotation is too high. Decrease the Oval Rotation.

Feather displays on the circle where the blade returns to the inside of the starting point.

Select the desired oval size listing and decrease the Oval Rotation value by moving the slidebar of the oval size to the left.

This is like decreasing the Oval Rotation field on the Configurations screen, but is specific to this particular oval size.

Do another test cut. Keep making adjustments until the ovals cut out as expected.

Adjusting Configurations and Doing Test Cuts

Continue adjusting the rotation for the different sized ovals listed. When you have one size cutting as desired, you can lock it down so that it no longer changes or cuts.

Adjust the rotation values accordingly until satisfied.

After a particular size has been satisfactorily adjusted, click the Locked checkbox for that size to no longer cut nor adjust.

Positioning Controls

Use the positioning controls to move the design around on the mat you are cutting it from as you do test cuts.

If desired, use the positioning control arrows to move the design one-mat-width with each click.

This allows the user to cut several of the test mats from a full sheet of matboard as you calibrate the circles.

It shows the full sheet of matboard with a representation of the last mat cut displayed.

When you have finished calibrating your circles, click OK to return to the Configurations Screen when done.
