Place CutArt on a Different Layer

CutArt are simple shapes and design elements that can be cut, drawn, or Debossed.
Traditionally, CutArts cannot be placed on any layer except the top layer. This lesson shows how to retrace a CutArt onto a Different Layer other than the top layer.
You can also use these same steps to place a LetterMat, TTF, Deboss, Pen or Crease object onto a different layer other than the Top Layer.

CutArt Definition

CutArt™ are simple shapes and design elements created by Wizard.

CutArts can be applied to your current design and resized and rotated. They can be Cut, Debossed, Penned or cut on Vinyl.

LetterMat Definition

The LetterMat™ fonts are specialized fonts designed specifically for the Wizard FrameShop software.

Single Line Fonts

The letters are formed with Single Lines, not drawn as the outlines of shapes. Single line fonts can only be Debossed or drawn with the Pen.

Outline Fonts

The Outline fonts display the shapes of the letters as outlines with only a slight distinction between the thin and thick strokes. These fonts can be Deboss, Penned or Cut.

TTF Definition

The True Type Font (TTF) is an additional source of fonts, separate from LetterMats, that can be loaded into Designer to Cut, Deboss, or Pen.

The True Type Font (TTF) format was created to work between both Apple (Mac) and Microsoft (Windows) and could be deciphered by most printers by default. The TTFs contain the mathematical outlines of each character in the font.

The True Type Fonts are located in the /Windows/Fonts directory.

Note: TTFs have not been tested by Wizard and results may vary. Feel free to experiment.

Deboss Definition

The Deboss cartridge stylus presses onto the surface of the matboard to create a subtle design.

There are three Deboss stylus sizes: Wide, Medium, Thin.

In addition to Templates, you can also Deboss CutArts, LetterMats and TTFs.

Pen Definition

The Pen Cartridge is used to draw onto the surface of the matboard on the CMC to create a design.

In addition, you can also Pen Designs, CutArts, LetterMats and TTFs.

Crease Definition

The Crease Cartridge is used to apply Crease marks that are used to assist in folding the thicker finished Box.

Design Opening in FrameShop
Place a two Layer 4 x 5 #101 Rectangle template on the FrameShop Design Editor.

Place a Guide
Now we will place a Guide that we can use to align our V-Groove. The V-Groove will be converted into our new Top Layer in Trace. Right-Click on the opening and select New Guide From Other. Guide Definition A Guide is a visual line marker which helps direct the motion or positioning of objects. The sides and centers of Objects can snap to the Guide Lines.
Click the checkbox for Add at Bottom. Enter 1.5" for the Distance From Bottom field and click OK. Guide Definition A Guide is a visual line marker which helps direct the motion or positioning of objects. The sides and centers of Objects can snap to the Guide Lines.

Now we'll use the same steps to place a second Guide that we can use to align the CutArt. Right-Click on the opening and select New Guide From Other. Click the checkbox for Add at Bottom. Place a V-Groove
Now we will place a V-Groove around the opening. This will eventually be our new Top Layer. Make sure that the Opening is selected. Click on the Openings tab. Click the Add V-Groove button. Enter 1" for the Offset value and click OK. V-Groove Definition A Normal Bevel Closed V-Groove consists of two cuts - one in the Matboard and one in the Fallout, mirroring each other. They are cut Halfway through the matboard, revealing the Matboard Core. The Normal Bevel is when the Angle of the blade cuts the Matboard/Fallout surface so it Slants Away from the surface of the Matboard/Fallout, and the Matboard Core is Seen from the front. Offset Definition The Offset button creates a displacement copy of the selected object a parallel distance away as specified in the Offset Reveal field in Trace.
The V-Groove is placed. Click on the V-Groove to resize it. V-Groove Definition A Normal Bevel Closed V-Groove consists of two cuts - one in the Matboard and one in the Fallout, mirroring each other. They are cut Halfway through the matboard, revealing the Matboard Core. Pull down the Bottom of the V-Groove and let it snap to the bottom Horizontal Guideline that we placed. Make sure you are pulling the V-Groove down and not just moving it. Place CutArt on Design

Navigate to the desired location. Click on the desired CutArt and click Select. CutArt Definition CutArt™ are simple shapes and design elements created by Wizard. CutArts can be applied to your current design and resized and rotated. They can be Cut, Debossed, Penned or cut on Vinyl.
The CutArt is placed. Move the CutArt down to the Top Guide we placed and Center it Horizontally. You may need to Zoom In to make the placement easier. Bring Design into Trace
Bring the design into Trace via the Right-Click Menu* or from the Cut Preview Screen. If you use the Right-Click* method, hold down the CTRL key and select the Opening, the V-Groove and the CutArt before selecting Convert to CutArt.

Add a Layer

We're going to add a Layer to the Design for our new Top Layer.

Click on the Set Bevels tab.
Click Add in the Layers section.
A new Layer will be added. You can see by the muted design that nothing is currently Traced on this layer.

Traced Definition

Tracing the Design provides the Bevel Type and other necessary information to the Vector design in order to either Cut or apply a Non-Blade Tool on the CMC.

The Set Bevels Tab in Trace contains the tools needed to Trace the design.

Trace the Design
We didn't make any changes to the CutArt itself, so there is no need to Tangify It or Convert into Arcs. Select the Top Layer which is displayed at the top of the Layer List regardless of the actual layer number. The objects currently Traced on this layer are displayed in their Cartridge Type Colors. Traced Definition Tracing the Design provides the Bevel Type and other necessary information to the Vector design in order to either Cut or apply a Non-Blade Tool on the CMC. The Set Bevels Tab in Trace contains the tools needed to Trace the design.
Select the Outside Object which will be our new Top Layer.
Click the 45° Bevel Set button to trace it. It will turn Blue. We're going to Retrace the CutArt and the other opening onto a different Layer which will move them from this Layer. Traced Definition Tracing the Design provides the Bevel Type and other necessary information to the Vector design in order to either Cut or apply a Non-Blade Tool on the CMC. The Set Bevels Tab in Trace contains the tools needed to Trace the design.
Click on the Middle Layer from the Layer List.
Click the CutArt to select it. Click the Cartridge Type desired, such as the Pen or Deboss Set button. The CutArt will turn the color of the selected Cartridge. Traced Definition Tracing the Design provides the Bevel Type and other necessary information to the Vector design in order to either Cut or apply a Non-Blade Tool on the CMC. The Set Bevels Tab in Trace contains the tools needed to Trace the design. Cartridge Definition A Cartridge is the physical component that holds a Blade, Deboss Stylus, Pen or other application tool.
Click on the Middle Mayer object. Click the 45° Bevel Set button to Trace it. It will turn Blue. Traced Definition Tracing the Design provides the Bevel Type and other necessary information to the Vector design in order to either Cut or apply a Non-Blade Tool on the CMC. The Set Bevels Tab in Trace contains the tools needed to Trace the design.
Click on the Bottom Layer on the Layer List.
Click on the Bottom Layer object. Click on the 45° Bevel Set button to Trace it. It will turn Blue. Traced Definition Tracing the Design provides the Bevel Type and other necessary information to the Vector design in order to either Cut or apply a Non-Blade Tool on the CMC. The Set Bevels Tab in Trace contains the tools needed to Trace the design.
You can click on each layer on the Layer List and make sure everything is Traced onto the correct layer. Traced Definition Tracing the Design provides the Bevel Type and other necessary information to the Vector design in order to either Cut or apply a Non-Blade Tool on the CMC. The Set Bevels Tab in Trace contains the tools needed to Trace the design. Bevel Type Definition The Bevel Type is the Angle that the blade cuts on the Matboard/Fallout surface when it is not cut at a 90° Right Angle.

Save, Cut

Save the CutArt.
Load the CutArt.
Cut the CutArt.
Optionally, you can also bring the CutArt straight to the Cut Preview from Trace.

The CutArt on lower layer design is completed.
