These are the steps for cutting a mat.

Cutting a Mat
The screen Indicator will display if you are cutting from the Back or the Front of the mat. For Additional Information: Click Options > Cut From Front to cut the design from the Front of the mat. Select Cut From Front Button toggle on the Cut Preview. Default Settings: See Admin > Cutting for the default settings for Cutting from the Front or the Back. Cut From the Back Definition Cutting from the Back will cut with the back of the mat toward the operator, and can be selected on the Cutting Preview. On the Configurations screen the Current Bevel Type dropdown control will display the bevel types in this manner: Cut from the Back bevel type names will be displayed with no further label; i.e., Normal Bevel. Cut from the Front bevel type names will be displayed with a Front label; i.e., Normal Bevel-Front of Mat. V-Grooves have their own selection on the list. If you are cutting an element that must be applied to the front of the mat, such as a V-Groove or Pen design, any openings on that layer will also cut from the front and use the Front of Mat configuration item; i.e., Normal Bevel-Front of Mat. So if you are having problems with a Normal Bevel cut on the same layer as a V-Groove, make sure you select Normal Bevel-Front of Mat to edit the configurations for that opening. Place Matboard on the Board Place the matboard on the CMC with the front of the mat facing the board when cutting from the back and with the front of the mat facing the user when cutting from the front. Check for Clamp Interference Check for Clamp Interference on the CMC Z1 and Z (9000z), and adjust the finger-clamps accordingly. For Additional Information: See Clamp Interference CMC Z1 and Z (9000z).
Click Cut Click the Cut button on the Cutting Preview Screen. For Additional Information: See the Cut Button.
Align the Head If the motors on the CMC are disengaged, the user will be prompted to Align the Head. For Additional Information: See Align the Head
Change the Blade Cartridge and Blade Depth Change the Blade Cartridge and Blade Depth as prompted, and click OK. For Additional Information: See Changing the Blade Cartridge. See Changing the Blade Depth.
After the Head is Aligned, the desired Blade Cartridge inserted and the Blade Depth adjusted as prompted, the CMC will begin to cut.
