Internal Driver Pack and BIM Replacement: CMC 5000

The DriverPak is the brain to your Wizard, and comes in several variations. It is imperative to remove the old parts before installing the replacement parts, and to return the old parts to Wizard for proper credit.

If you have an Internal DriverPak and a BIM Card and were sent an External DriverPak and BIM Card: Remove the Internal DriverPak and the BIM Card and install the External DriverPak and BIM Card. See “Definitions” below if you need more information.

• External DriverPak and BIM Card: External DriverPak is a shoebox-sized peripheral that says Wizard on the front. There is a Patch Cord (parallel cable) on the back of the External DriverPak that plugs into the BIM Card (circuit board) from the back of the computer. The BIM Card usually has a sticker that says BIM####.

• USB DriverPak: USB DriverPak is a shoebox-sized peripheral that says Wizard on the front, and is NOT linked to a BIM Card. It plugs into the USB Port of your computer.

• Internal DriverPak and BIM Card: Internal DriverPak is located inside the computer. The Board Cable (large Grey) plugs directly into the back of the Internal DriverPak in the back of the computer. The BIM Card (circuit board) is also located inside the computer and is plugged into the Internal DriverPak via a ribbon cable on the inside of the computer.

Turn off power to computer. Turn off power to DriverPak (flip toggle on back to “0”).

Locate the BIM Card. Follow Patch Cord from the External DriverPak to where it connects to the back of the computer -- THIS is the BIM Card that it is plugged into. Unplug the Patch Cord from the BIM Card and note the location.

Remove the cover from the computer. Note that there are many different cover types so take care when removing to cover to avoid damage to the system. In general:

• If computer is 7.25” wide, remove the four screws from the back of the case. Lift the cover up and out to remove it.

• If computer is 9.25” wide, remove the two screws on the back right side ONLY, and remove the right panel only (as viewed from the back).

Locate and remove the small screw holding the BIM Card in place.

Lift the BIM Card straight out to remove it completely.

If the BIM Card does not have a ribbon cable, you have finished removing the BIM Card. Return the BIM Card and any associated ribbon cables, etc. to Wizard for credit.

If the BIM Card is connected to a parallel connector plate via a ribbon cable (usually in the next slot in the computer), both the BIM Card and the connector plate need to be removed. Remove the BIM Card, connector plate and ribbon cable from the computer.

If the BIM Card is connected to the Internal DriverPak via a ribbon cable, simply unplug the ribbon cable from the BIM Card.

Return the BIM Card and any associated ribbon cables, etc. to Wizard for credit.

Turn off the computer. Remove the cover from the computer by removing the four screws from the back of the case. Lift cover up and out to remove it.

Locate the Internal DriverPak, which is the silver box with two-wires (one red and one black) attached to a green connector. Unplug the green electrical connector from the Internal DriverPak.

Make sure the Ribbon Cable has already been unplugged from the BIM Card (circuit board).

Remove screws from Board Cable connector (large round black connector) on back of computer. Set screws aside.

Remove two small plastic panels in the front of the computer. Slide the Internal DriverPak through the opening where the two panels had been.

Make sure you do not disconnect any wiring as the cables come up through the computer. Replace the panels.

The Internal DriverPak has now been removed.

Carefully line up the BIM Card into the ISA Slot where you had removed the old BIM Card.

Press gently until the BIM Card is firmly seated into the slot.

Replace the small screw to hold the BIM Card in place.

Replace the cover and the screws that held the cover in place.

Plug Power Cord into the Back of the DriverPak and the other end into a surge protector. NOTE: On the Model 8500 the other end of the Power Cord plugs in to the back of the Emergency Stop Button. The Power Cord from the Emergency Stop Button plugs into a surge protector.

Before plugging in the Board Cable (large grey), note that FOUR of these pins are in a straight line. Align the plug so that the four pins are aligned correctly, gently insert plug, then turn black Locking Ring until it seats itself and clicks into place.

Connect the DriverPak to the computer.

For External DriverPaks: Connect the Patch Cord (parallel cable) to the back of the External DriverPak. The other end plugs into the BIM Card (parallel connection) which is usually marked with a sticker that says BIM####. NOTE: There is a similar parallel connection, which is the printer port - do not plug in the External DriverPak into the printer port.

For USB DriverPaks: Plug the USB Cable into the USB DriverPak. Plug the other end of the USB Cable into the USB Port in the back of the computer.

NOTE: It is IMPORTANT that you plug the USB Cable into the SAME USB Port that the DriverPak was originally using.

Turn on the DriverPak by flipping toggle on back to “1”). Boot up Computer. You have finished.
