Footblock Replacement Instructions: All Current CMC Models

Replace the Footblock

IMPORTANT: Make sure the ECU/Driver Pack is turned off and the FrameShop/MatDesigner software is closed.

Footblock
  • Move the Head and the Gantry to the far right of the Board.

  • Remove the Blade Cartridge.

CMC Z1/Z (9000z)/9000/8500e SBT:

  • Loosen the three 1/8” Allen set screws holding the Footblock to the Head Motor Shaft.

  • There is one screw on the top.

  • There are two screws on the side.

There are Two Screws on the Side
  • Carefully remove the original Footblock from the Head Motor Shaft, taking care not to lose the Plunge Bar that is inside of the Head Motor Shaft; it may fall out with the removal of the Footblock.

  • Install the replacement Footblock, pushing up firmly to make sure the Footblock seats firmly onto the bottom of the Head Motor Shaft.

  • Note: It is critical that the Footblock seat on the bottom of the Head Motor Shaft to maintain proper cutting depths.

  • Loosely tighten the left then the right set screw on the side of the Footblock.

  • Continue tightening in sequence until the Footblock is secure.

  • Firmly tighten the 1/8” Allen set screws at the top of the Footblock.

Remove the Footblock

CMC 8500e/8500/8000:

  • Loosen the two 1/8” Allen set screws holding the Footblock to the Head Motor Shaft.

  • Note: Some Footblocks have three set screws and some have four (two on the sides, one on the top and one on the bottom).

There May be Two Screws on the Side
  • Carefully remove the original Footblock from the Head Motor Shaft, taking care not to lose the Plunge Bar that is inside of the Head Motor Shaft; it may fall out with the removal of the Footblock.

Remove the Footblock
  • Install the replacement Footblock, pushing up firmly to make sure the Footblock is firmly against the bottom of the motor shaft.

  • Note: It is critical that the Footblock seat on the bottom of the Head Motor Shaft to maintain proper cutting depths.

  • Loosely tighten the left then the right set screw on the side of the Footblock.

  • Continue tightening in sequence until the Footblock is secure.

  • Firmly tighten the 1/8” Allen set screws at the top of the Footblock and the bottom if there is a set screw there.

Install the Replacement Footblock

Testing the Footblock: All Models

  • Power up the computer and the ECU/Driver Pack.

  • Open the FrameShop/MatDesigner software.

  • Create a single layer 3x3 square opening and go to the Cut Preview Screen.

  • On the CMC models 8000, 8500, and 8500e turn the Blade Depth Knob counter-clockwise until it stops.

  • On the CMC model 9000, 9000z and Z1, turn the Blade Depth Knob clockwise until it stops.

  • Turn the Blade Depth Knob to “1” on the dial.

  • Insert the black 45° Blade Cartridge into the Footblock.

  • Cut the mat and remove.

  • If there is faint scoring on all sides of the 3x3 square, the calibration is complete.

  • If scoring on the mat is not present, increase the dial in increments of 1 and repeat score test until scoring is present.

  • If the scoring is too deep, reverse the process.

Turn the Blade Depth Adjustment Knob to “1” on the Dial
  • Once the optimal depth is achieved, loosen the three 3/32” set screws (some models may only have two set screws) on the Blade Depth Knob and adjust the knob to “1”.

  • Re-tighten the screws with the Blade Depth Knob set to “1”.

  • Test additional standard cuts to ensure cut quality.
