How to Make a Photo Notch Design

  • This will walk you through using two #312: Photo designs and merging them together to create a single design.

  • It also gives you instructions for an alternative design using the #102: Oval and the #105: French Stair.

  • Click New Mat Design on the FrameShop Main Page.

  • Click Cancel on the New Openings Screen.

  • On the Openings Tab, bring two template #312: Photo onto the Editor.

  • NOTE: Selecting different Templates and adjusting their Parameters will give you an unlimited range of creative options.

  • Click on the Properties Tab to edit it.

  • Enter the desired size for the two #312: Photo openings.

    • Remember that we are going to merge the two templates together so keep that in mind when sizing the design.

  • Click on the Bottom #312: Photo opening.

  • In the Rotation field, enter 90 for the degree of Rotation.

  • The #312: Photo will be rotated 90°.

  • Click on the Parameters Tab.

  • Change the Notch Size to 1.375 for each opening.

  • Move each of the #312: Photo openings into the center of the mat.

  • Select both openings and click the Group Selection button.

  • The two openings should merge where they overlapped.

  • If you need to make an adjustment to the design, click the Group Selection button to unmerge them, then click on the background to unselect them.

  • Re-edit as desired and then regroup them again.

  • The edited Photo Notch design is now completed.

NOTES:

  • You can repeat this process to merge any two templates together in any fashion as long as they share the same Bevel Type.

  • Try different degrees of Rotation.

  • Experiment with using different sized Templates.

  • Try using different Templates.

  • You can also adjust the Template’s Parameters which will give you endless creative options for your creative abilities.

  • Remember: Have fun!

  • Alternatively, you could create a similar design with the #102: Oval and the #105: French Stair.

  • In this example, I made the #102: Oval 1” larger than the #105: French Stair.

  • Click on the Parameters Tab for the #105: French Stair.

  • The Step Width is .8125 and the N_Steps is 1.

  • Select both openings and click the Group Selection button.

  • This gives you an alternative to this design, plus the ability to change the number of Notches and their sizes.
