How to Cut Foam Core

  • These instructions will walk you through cutting Foam Core.

  • The Clamp Pressure Adjustment is used to adjust the Low Clamp Pressure setting for the Mat Clamp Pressure Knob for CMCs that include this feature.

  • The Clamp Pressure Adjustment is usually located on the Control Panel on the left side of the Board.

  • The Gauge displays the clamp pressure as it is cutting.

  • To adjust the clamp pressure, Pause the current cut.

  • Pull out the black Clamp Pressure Adjustment Knob underneath the Control Panel.

    • Turn the knob Counter-Clockwise to Decrease the pressure, which is what we want to do.

    • Turn the knob Clockwise to Increase the pressure, which you will need to do after cutting the Foam Core.

  • Push the Clamp Pressure Adjustment Knob back in.

  • Now locate the Mat Clamp Pressure Knob on the Control Panel.

  • The Mat Clamp Pressure Knob allows you to switch between Standard and Low Clamp Pressure.

    • Pull the Mat Clamp Pressure Knob Out to use the Lower Pressure, which we want to do.

    • Push the Mat Clamp Pressure Knob In to use the Standard Pressure after cutting the Foam Core.

  • If you are having difficulty cutting through the current Foam Core, you could further slow the cutting down by entering the desired Cut Speed Percentage for each Cartridge type, such as the 90° Cartridge.

  • Take care not to slow it too much or it might struggle to cut through the material.

    • 100% is cutting at Full Speed.

    • 50% is cutting at Half Speed.

  • When that particular Cartridge is used next, it will use the new Cut Speed entered.

  • Slowing down the Cut Speed can help when cutting thick material or intricate designs to help prevent the Head from skipping on tight corners.

  • Click OK.
