How to Make a Staircase Notch Design

  • This will walk you through using two #111: Quad designs and merging them together to create a single design.

  • Click New Mat Design on the FrameShop Main Page.

  • Click Cancel on the New Openings Screen.

  • On the Openings Tab, bring over a template #111: Quad onto the Editor.

  • Click on the Properties Tab to edit it.

  • Enter the desired size for the #111: Quad opening.

    • Remember that we are going to merge two of these templates together so keep that in mind when sizing the design.

  • Click on the Quad Tab.

  • Select Template #201: 4 Staircase for Quadrants 1 and 3.

    • Alternatively, select #105: French Stair for Quadrants 1 and 3.

  • Copy and Paste the edited #111: Quad so that we have two openings.

  • Click on the Bottom #111: Quad opening.

  • In the Rotation field, enter 90 for the degree of Rotation.

  • The #111: Quad will be rotated 90°.

  • Move each of the #111: Quad openings into the center of the mat.

  • Select both openings and click the Group Selection button.

  • The two openings should merge where they overlapped.

  • If you need to make an adjustment to the design, click the Group Selection button to unmerge them, then click on the background to unselect them.

  • Re-edit as desired and then regroup them again.

  • The edited Staircase Notch design is now completed.

  • NOTE: You can repeat this process to merge any two templates together in any configuration as long as they share the same Bevel Type.
