How to Make a Shadowbox with Cove Sides

  • Click New Mat Design on the FrameShop Main Page.

  • Click Cancel on the New Openings Screen.

  • Click on the Properties Tab and enter the outside dimensions.

  • Click on the Openings Tab and bring over a Template #106 Mixed onto the work area.

  • Click on the Mixed template and click on the Properties Tab.

  • Enter the Opening Size dimensions for the back of your shadow box.

  • Set the number of Layers to 2.

  • Set the top mat to be Template #614 Spike and the bottom layer to be Template #101 Rectangle.

  • The Reveal is the box wall depth.

  • Enter the desired Reveal.

  • Click the Parameters Tab.

  • Select the #614 Spike Layer in the Params for Layer toggle.

  • Set the Height value the same as the Reveal value entered previously.

  • Set the Width value at half the value of the Height.

    • You can play with this value to get different angles.

  • To cut the mat, place the matboard in the CMC face-down.

  • Select to NOT cut the Outside.

  • Set the Blade Depth to 7 (or your V-Groove Blade Depth).

  • Cut the bottom Rectangle layer, but do not remove the matboard.

    • The purpose of this is merely to score the bottom border of the Shadowbox to make it easier to fold and assemble.

  • Return the Blade Depth to the normal setting and cut the top #614 Spike layer.

  • Remove the matboard.

  • Close the corners and reinforce the folds with linen tape.

  • Your Shadowbox is done.
