The Driver Pack

  • The Driver Pack is the signal amplifier to the Wizard CMC and comes in several variations.

  • Remove the old parts before installing the replacement parts, and return the old parts to Wizard for proper credit.

  • It is important to note that if you are replacing a USB Driver Pack with a USB 80-Volt USB Driver Pack (label on the back will state if it is an 80-Volt Driver Pack), to follow the instructions “Installing the Drivers for the 80-Volt Driver Pack” at the end of this document.

Removing the External Driver Pack/USB Driver Pack

  • Power off the Driver Pack by flipping the toggle on back to “0”.

  • Unplug the Board Cable (large Grey) from the back of the Driver Pack by turning black locking ring and pulling gently.

  • Unplug power cord.

  • Unplug the USB Cable from the back of the Driver Pack.

  • Return the Driver Pack to Wizard.

WARNING: The Driver Pack is HIGH VOLTAGE! No user serviceable parts are inside the Driver Pack.

Installing the USB Driver Pack/80-Volt Driver Pack

  • Connect the Driver Pack to the computer by plugging the USB Cable into the USB Driver Pack.

  • If you were sent a replacement USB Cable, plug the new USB Cable into the Driver Pack, and the other end into the same USB Port that the old cable was using.

  • Plug the Power Cable into the back of the Driver Pack.

  • Before plugging in the Board Cable (large grey), note that several of these pins are in a straight line.

  • Align the plug so that the pins are aligned correctly, gently insert plug, then turn black Locking Ring until it seats itself and clicks into place.

  • The replacedq4ment USB Driver Pack has been installed.

  • If you are replacing a USB Driver Pack with an 80-Volt Driver Pack, follow the directions under “Installing the Drivers for the 80-Volt Driver Pack”.

  • Power on the Driver Pack by flipping the toggle on the back to “1”).

Installing the Drivers for the 80-Volt Driver Pack

Make sure that you have the 5.4.1. or 5.5.1. MatDesigner CD, as the Drivers are on the CD.

Windows 8-10 Signed Driver Set-up Procedure

These steps are necessary to complete before installing any Drivers such as TI or FTDI, because Microsoft does not allow unsigned drivers to install.

  • Click the Start button, choose the Power button, press Shift and click Restart.

  • After Windows enters WinRE, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.

  • To install driver without digital signature, press F7 to choose the Disable Driver Signature Enforcement option.

  • The system will boot to Windows and then you can install any driver that is not signed.

  • After installation, you can restart Windows to let the option get enabled automatically.

Identifiers

  • The serial number range for the 80V Driver Packs with the new FTDI controller chip is 85950 - 86100.

  • You can identify these units visually by looking at the Serial Number sticker on the Driver Pack.

  • The letter B under Rev: indicates the unit has the FTDI chip installed.

  • Make sure that you have the 5.4.1. or 5.5.1. MatDesigner CD. If you no longer have the CD, please call Wizard.

New Hardware Wizard - Install 80V Drivers

  • Place the MatDesigner CD into the CD Rom Drive.

  • Click Exit on the Main Screen.

  • Power on the Driver Pack by clicking the toggle on the back to “I”.

  • The Welcome to Found New Hardware Wizard screen may open; your computer may skip this screen and go to the next step automatically.

  • Under “Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software”, select “No, not this time” and Click Next to continue.

  • The Found New Hardware Wizard for the 80V Series A Driver Pack should open up.

  • Click the Radio Button for Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and Click Next.

  • Click the Radio Button next to Search for the best driver in these locations.

  • Click the Checkbox next to Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM). Click Next.

  • The software will search the CD-ROM for the drivers.

NOTE: In the rare case the Hardware Wizard is unable to locate the driver, Click Back and Click the Checkbox for Include this location in the search. Click Browse and locate the MatDesigner CD manually. The drivers will be located on the disk in \DRIVERS\FTDI.

  • You may see the Windows Logo testing screen.

  • If you do, Click Continue Anyway.

  • The drivers will install.

  • After the drivers have installed,

  • Click Finish on the Completing Found new Hardware Screen.

New Hardware Wizard - Install USB Serial Port Adapter (USB Controller)

  • After installing the 80 Volt Driver Pack, the Welcome to Found New Hardware Wizard screen may open; your computer may skip this screen and go to the next step automatically.

  • Under “Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software”, select “No, not this time” and Click Next to continue.

  • The Found New Hardware Wizard for the 80V Series A Driver Pack should open up.

  • Click the Radio Button for Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and Click Next.

  • Click the Radio Button next to Search for the best driver in these locations.

  • Click the Checkbox next to Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM).

  • Click Next.

  • The software will search the CD-ROM for the drivers.

  • You may see the Windows Logo testing screen.

  • After the drivers have installed, Click Finish on the Completing Found new Hardware Screen.

  • After installing the drivers you will see in the Device Manager the new drivers install under Ports (COM & LPT) and under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Check the Version Number

Check the Version number of your MatDesigner software. The version number is listed on the main screen of the MatDesigner software, underneath the MatDesigner title.

If running 5.5.1 or later

You are finished. Exit the MatDesigner install screen and store the CD in a safe place.

If running 5.4.1

  • R-Click on the 80 V Series A Driver in Ports (COM & LPT) in the Device Manager and select Properties.

  • On the 80V Series A Driver Pack Properties screen, Click on the Port Settings Tab.

  • Click on the Advanced button.

  • On the Advanced Settings for Com5 Screen, change the COM port number from 5 to 4 in the drop down list and Click OK.

  • Click OK on the on the 80V Series A Driver Pack Properties screen.

  • Now you are finished.

  • Exit the MatDesigner install screen and store the CD in a safe place.
