Doily

This lesson shows how to create a doily shape.

Design in MatDesigner, Bring into PathTrace

Create a #506 Star in MatDesigner of the size desired.

Clicking on Parameters.

Change the No. of Points to 6, and the Spikiness to 0 to make a polygon.

Place a small circle in the top portion of the Polygon. This circle represents the pedal of the doily.

Save as a Path.

Open the path into PathTrace.

Draw Line

Draw axis lines in order to mirror the circle.

Click Trace and Draw tab.

Click Draw Line.

Right-click on the top part of the Polygon.

Right-click on the bottom to draw a line.

Right-click on the top right corner of the Polygon.

Right-click on the bottom left corner.

Continue around the polygon, drawing lines from the corners, and from the midpoint of the lines.

Make sure that the circle slightly protrudes across each line next to it. If not, try redrawing the circle or offsetting it to make it large enough.

Mirror Object

Click Mirror Object.

Click on the circle then click on the line just to the right of the circle.

The circle is now mirrored using the line as the axis.

Click on the new circle and click on the line just to the right of it.

Continue around the Polygon until all of the circles are in place.

Delete Object

Click Delete Object.

Click on each line to delete it.
It is not necessary to delete the lines, but it may help when tracing.

Break all Intersections

Click Edit > Break all Intersections.

The circles are now broken where they cross each other.

Join Segments

Click Prep Design Tab.

Click Join Segments.

Click on the outer arc of each circle in order to join them together.

Right-click to join them together.

Tangify/Convert to Splines

Click Edit > Tangify all Circuits.

Click Edit > Convert Arcs to Splines.

Trace, Save, Cut

Trace, save and cut the design.
