Cut the Outside

Select Cut the Outside to have the CMC cut the outside of the mat.

Unselect Cut the Outside to use pre-sized matboard.

Plunge Count

Select Plunge Count to prompt for a blade change after a set number of plunges.

If set to 40, the CMC will pause cutting and prompt user to change the blade after 40 plunges.

Experiment to see what number works best for your situation.

Change the blade and hit CTRL+S or click on the screen to continue cutting.

Number of plunges is managed in the configurations screen, and will be described there.

Unselect Plunge Count to manually manage blade changes.

Rotate Mat 90 Degrees

Select Rotate Mat 90 Degrees to rotate the current mat 90 degrees.

The mat will rotate 90 degrees.

NOTE: If cutting a “too-tall” mat, it is often easier to rotate the design from within the editor (i.e., rotate the group of openings). Select the openings, click advanced tab, click Group Selection, then select Rotate 90.

Merge Openings

Select Merge Openings to merge any overlapping objects into one opening.

Merged objects must share same bevel types; i.e., standard bevel will not merge with reverse bevel.

Merge objects on the editor:

Alternatively, hold down shift key and select two or more compatible objects on the editor.

Click advanced tab.

Click Group Selection.

Overlapping openings automatically merge together.

Groups remain merged when taken to cut preview.

To unmerge grouped items on the editor, click properties and uncheck Merge Path.

Cut From Front

Select Cut From Front to cut current layer from front of mat.

Unselect Cut From Front to cut current layer from back of mat.

If a layer contains a V-Groove, Debossing, or other face-of-mat Cartridge, it automatically defaults to cutting from the front.

Rail Dodge

Select Rail Dodge to manually position matboard to avoid cutting the outside with small borders.

Enter the amount you have moved the matboard in the Rail Dodge field.

Rail Dodge allows users to manually position mat at least 1.5” (3.8cm) up/over to avoid cutting the outside when cutting borders less than 1.5” (3.8 cm).

To position the matboard in the offset position you can use a Rail Dodge made from an “L” shaped mat or simply tape the matboard in place.

The cut preview will display Dodge when the rail dodge has been selected.

The design will visually move up and over on the cut preview by the distance selected in the rail dodge field.

Unselect Rail Dodge to cut the mat normally.

Continuous Layer?

Select Continuous Layer to prevent the software from rolling to next layer after cutting current layer.

Unselect Continuous Layer for software to automatically roll over to next layer after cutting.

Cut Layers Stacked

Select Cut Layers Stacked to assemble the mats as you cut them on the CMC.

The system does a check and will warn if this design cannot be cut stacked.

MatDesigner may prompt to check if all layers fit under the foot block; may need to remove one backing sheet.
Place first mat into the CMC, face down.
After it cuts first layer, head moves to the right; clamps remain engaged.

Next message prompts user to ATG the next layer, including placing ATG on the fallout to keep it from shifting.

ATG the next layer then click Ok to cut next layer.

When mat is finished cutting, head returns home and clamps disengage.

Remove completed project from the CMC.

NOTE: This feature is designed to be used with pre-cut matboard, cut from the back. This feature does not allow cutting the outside, or any feature that requires cutting from the front, i.e., V-Grooves.

Either cut the successive layers after the top layer .5” shorter, or trim them after cutting the project (as only the top layer is in the rails).

90° Outside Cuts

Select 90° Outside Cut to cut the outside of the mat with the 90° cartridge.

NOTE: You must still select Cut the Outside to actually cut the outside of the mat.

Unselect 90° Outside Cut to cut the outside of the mat with the 45° cartridge.

NOTE: You must still select Cut the Outside to actually cut the outside of the mat.

NOTE: If the CMC does not have this option, it is greyed out.
