Using Color Profiles for the Wink Camera

Create and use color profiles which takes into account color, lighting, and other variables specific to the camera location.  Several color profiles can be created and used, such as for lighting changes during the course of the day (i.e., morning, afternoon, sunny, cloudy). 

NOTE: Color profiles are applied to the image taken by the camera, not to the camera preview. Color profiles are not necessary with cameras that provide auto white balance.              
                                   
NOTE: If you are using a Wink Camera, select the Wizard Wink Camera checkbox in the Administrator > Editor section to display the Wink camera settings. 

Set up the Monitor Colors

Set up the monitor colors so that it is displaying the correct colors for the artwork, moulding and mats.

Have the color chart in hand. 

Click Options > Check Monitor

The color chart is displayed on the screen. This screen can be maximized if desired. 

Adjust the monitor settings to match the display to your printed chart. 

Click OK to close the color chart when done.

Create a Color Profile for the Wink Camera

Create a color profile for the system which takes into account color, lighting, and other variables specific to the camera location. Color profiles are not necessary with cameras that provide auto white balance.

Step 1 of 5: Capture Image

Set up the monitor. See “Set up the Monitor Colors” above. 

Click New on the Profile section of the Images tab.

Step 1: Capture Image screen opens. Click the Take Picture button.

The Camera Capture screen opens. Place the color chart so that it fits equal distance from the edges of the viewing frame. 

Click the Auto Adjust button on the camera capture screen. The system will do a quick adjustment to the exposure and white balance. This step helps make the color chart more visible, not color-corrected.             

NOTE: Some cameras create a better color profile by NOT clicking Auto Adjust. To see what works best with your camera and particular lighting situation, create a profile using Auto Adjust and another not using the Auto Adjust.             

Wait for the Auto Adjustments to complete, then click the Next button.

Step 2 of 5: Capture Color Chart 

Step 2: Color Chart screen opens with the color chart in the preview window. Click the Capture Color Chart button.  

Use the mouse to draw a rectangle encompassing the color chart in the image.

Click Next. If there is a problem with the color chart capture, the user will be prompted to capture it again.

If the software needs to make adjustments for the White Field, it will continue to Step 3 of 5: Fine Tune. Otherwise, it will proceed to “Step 5 of 5: Save Profile” below.

Step 3 of 5: Fine Tune

Step 3: Fine Tune screen opens. Click the Fine-Tune button to further adjust the settings. 

Optionally, the user can click the Skip button if the image is satisfactory.

The Remote Camera screen opens. For best results click Auto Adjust, wait for adjustments to complete, make any final image adjustments that you would like then click Next.

Step 4 of 5: White Field

Step 4: Capture White Field screen opens. Click the White Field button to set the white balance. 

Optionally, the user can click Skip if the image is satisfactory.

The Camera Capture screen opens. Fill the entire camera field of view with a white background (i.e., piece of white matboard). Click Auto Adjust, wait for the adjustments to complete and then click Next.

NOTE: After the auto adjustment the image may appear dark, which is normal.

Step 5 of 5: Save Profile

Step 5: Save Profile screen opens when the system has generated a color profile from the information obtained.

Image Tabs

The Save Color Profile Screen displays three tabs: 

  • Original image: Displays the original image. 

  • Cropped image: Displays the cropped image of the selected color chart.

  • Calibrated image: Displays the calibrated image with the color profile applied.

When saving the profile, enter the desired profile name in the Name field.

Click the Make Profile Current checkbox to make this the current profile.

Click the Save Profile button.

The new profile will be listed in the Profiles section of the Images tab.
