Purpose

These instructions are for assembling the CMC replacement box Replacement Shipping Box for return shipping of the CMC. Please refer to the packaging instructions for the specific CMC model for full packaging instructions.

Assemble the Boxes

  • Remove the CMC box marked “bottom” Bottom from the shipped package and unfold it onto a flat surface.

  • An area of at least 8’ x 10’ is needed to assemble the box.

  • Make sure that the printed side of the box is face-down, toward the floor.

  • Pre-fold the sides of the box to make assembly easier.

  • Carefully peel back the adhesive paper from one corner flap and affix the corner flap to the inside edge of the box side.

  • NOTE: Take care that the adhesive does not touch any other surface other than the inside edge of the box side.

    • The adhesive could become contaminated or pull away from the box surface.

  • Press the corner flap firmly into the inside edge of the box to make sure it has made strong contact.

  • The corner is assembled.

  • Repeat the Steps steps above on the other three corners.

  • Repeat the Steps above on the CMC Box marked Top.

WARNING: Make sure you do not over-loosen this screw. One full turn is usually sufficient
  • Locate the 3/16” Allen belt tensioner screw that’s Belt Tensioner Screw that is located on the right bottom side of the lower rail Board Rail and marked with a red dot.

  • Loosen this screw the Allen Belt Tensioner Screw one turn only so that there is some movement in the belt tensioner.

Secure Gantry: Z1/Z (9000z)/9000/8000RC

Loosen Drive Belt

  • Remove the Gantry cover Cover by unscrewing the screws that holds it in place and set them aside.

  • Move the Gantry to the right side of the Board about two feet from the right edge (to leave room for the packaging foam corners).

  • Remove the 5/32” Allen screws and washers from the lower Gantry platePlate.

  • The tensioner springs should be visible.

  • Locate the belt tensioner hole Belt Tensioner Hole on the end of the belt tensioner Belt Tensioner.

  • Place the 5/32” Allen screw and washer we removed from the lower Gantry plate Plate into the belt tensioner hole Belt Tensioner Hole.

  • Tighten the Allen screw until belt tensioner the Belt Tensioner is flush with the rail Board Rail and the springs Belt Tensioner Springs are not visible.

  • Go back and tighten the 3/16” Allen belt tensioner screw Belt Tensioner Screw.

  • Lift the Drive Belt end out of the belt tensioner Belt Tensioner slot.

  • Pushing the Drive Belt end to the right may assist in getting a hold of it.

  • Wind up the Drive Belt, and rubber-band it.

  • Repeat steps 4 through 9 with the upper rail Board Rail.

Remove the Stop Plate

  • Move the Gantry far enough to the left to dislodge the belt anchorsBelt Anchors.

  • The belt anchors Belt Anchors are sunk into the left ends of the rails Board Rails and are attached to the Drive Belts.

Stop Plate

  • Loosen the top 3/16” Stop Screw of the Magnetic Gantry Stop Plate.

  • Lift up the Magnetic Stop Plate to disengage the pin from the hole and slide the alignment plate Magnetic Stop Plate to the left end of the rail Board Rail to remove.

  • Remove the right front 3/16” Stop Screw of the silver Gantry Stop Plate and set aside.

  • Loosen the back left T-Nut screw and slide the alignment plate Stop Plate to the left end of the rail Board Rail to remove.

Stop Screw

  • If your model only has a Stop Screw without the alignment plate Stop Plate, remove the Stop Screw.

Attaching the Shipping Blocks

  • If the shipping blocks Shipping Blocks have been misplaced, please find a way to secure the Gantry so that it does not move during shipment.

  • Loosely place the T-Nut onto the shipping blocks Shipping Blocks and slide onto the rail Gantry Rail on each side of the Gantry as described next.

  • Place two of the shipping blocks Shipping Blocks on either side of the Gantry on top of the upper rail Board Rail.

  • Tighten into place.

  • Place two shipping blocks Shipping Blocks on either side of the Gantry on the bottom rail Board Rail.

  • One should be to the left side of the Gantry on the underside of the bottom rail Board Rail.

  • Tighten into place.

  • Place the other shipping block Shipping Block to the right of the Gantry on the top of the bottom rail Board Rail.

Reinstall the Stop Plate

  • Reinstall your Gantry Stop as described below.

Magnetic

Stop Plate

  • Slide the black Magnetic Gantry Stop Plate in from the left end of the rail Board Rail keeping the pin towards you.

  • Place the pin into the hole and tighten the top 3/16” Stop Screw.

Silver Gantry Stop Plate

  • Slide the Gantry Stop Plate in from the left end of the rail Board Rail and line up with the holes on the rail Board Rail.

  • Tighten the back left T-Nut screw.

  • Replace the right front 3/16” Stop Screw and tighten.

Stop Screw

  • If your model only has a Stop Screw without the alignment plate Stop Plate, replace the Stop Screw.

Installing the Drive Belt onto the Board Rail

  • Lightly pull the coiled Drive Belt toward the right to take up the slack and pull the belt anchor Belt Anchor into place flush with the end of the CMC Board Rail.

  • Remove the rubberband from the Drive Belt and loosely lay the Drive Belt along the rail Board Rail channel.

  • Pull the loose belt end Drive Belt End to the right, making sure that the Drive Belt is not twisted and that the teeth are facing down toward the Board into the rail Board Rail channel.

  • Slide the screw of the belt end Drive Belt End into the belt tensioner slot Belt Tensioner Slot.

  • Remove the 5/32” Allen screw and washer from the belt tensioner Belt Tensioner.

  • Place the two Allen screw and washer into the holes provided on the lower Gantry platePlate.

  • Place them so that the screw protrudes only slightly from the back of the plate.

  • Loosen one full turn only the 3/16” Allen belt tensioner screw Belt Tensioner Screw from the right bottom side of the lower rail Board Rail marked with a red dot.

Warning

WARNING: Make sure you do not over-loosen this screw. One full turn is usually sufficient.

  • The belt tensioner Belt Tensioner should spring fully into place.

  • Snugly tighten the Allen belt tensioner screw Belt Tensioner Screw on the bottom right of the upper and lower rails Board Rails.

  • Repeat steps 1 through 8 with the upper rail Board Rail.

  • Replace the Gantry cover Cover using the two screws removed earlier.

Secure Gantry: 8500e SBT/8500e/8500/8000

  • Remove the bottom Gantry cover Cover by unscrewing the screw that holds it in place and set it aside.

  • Move the Gantry to the right side of the Board about two feet from the right edge (to leave room for the packaging foam corners).

Remove the Stop Screw/Stop Plate

  • Loosen the back left screw of T-Nut and slide the Gantry Stop Plate to the left end of the rail Board Rail to remove.

  • If your model only has a Stop Screw without the alignment plate Stop Plate, remove the Stop Screw.

Attaching the Shipping Blocks

  • If the shipping blocks Shipping Blocks have been misplaced, please find a way to secure the Gantry so that it does not move during shipment.

  • Loosely place the T-Nut onto the shipping blocks Shipping Blocks and slide onto the rail Board Rail on each side of the Gantry as described next.

  • Place one shipping block Shipping Block to the left of the Gantry on the underside of the top rail Board Rail and the other to the right of the Gantry on top of the rail Board Rail.

  • Tighten into place.

  • Place the other two shipping blocks Shipping Blocks on the lower rail Board Rail.

  • The bottom shipping blocks Shipping Blocks should be located on the top of the lower rail Board Rail on either side of the Gantry.

  • Tighten into place.

Reinstall the Stop Plate

  • Reinstall your Gantry the Stop Plate as described below.

  • Slide the Gantry Stop Plate in from the left end of the rail Board Rail and line up with the holes on the rail Board Rail.

  • Tighten the back left T-Nut screw.

  • Replace the right front 3/16” Stop Screw and tighten.

Covers

Reinstall the Gantry

Cover

  • Replace the Gantry covers Cover using the two screws screw removed earlier.

Placing the Foam Corners onto the Board

  • Locate each of the foam corners.

  • Note that the foam corners that attach to the top of the Board are wider than the foam corners used for the bottom of the Board.

  • Fold and separate the middle top and middle bottom foam corners from each other.

  • Attach the bottom left, middle and bottom right foam corners.

  • Attach the wider top left, middle and top right foam corners.

  • For the model CMC 5000, remove the insert before placing over the motors on the Board.

Place the Board into the Box

  • Place the bottom Board box (marked BT) onto a table or other flat surface.

  • Make note the orientation of the Up Arrow Arrow on the outside of the box, and rotate the box if necessary.

  • It is important that the top of the Board matches the markings for the top of the box.

  • With the help of a second person, carefully lift the Board with the foam corners and place into the box.

  • Make sure the top of the Board matches the markings for the top of the box.

  • Refer to the Repackaging Instructions for instructions on packing the other items into the box.
