How to Create an Inset Opening Design

  • A simple inset opening design can be created by merging openings together.

  • Click New Mat Design on the FrameShop Main Page.

  • Click Cancel on the New Openings Screen.

  • Click on the Properties Tab and enter the outside dimensions.

  • Click on the Openings Tab and bring over two openings that will be the inset openings.

  • Now we will build up the Guides for the main opening.

  • Right-Click on one of the openings and select New Guide From Other.

  • The Add Other Guide screen will pop up.

  • This screen will allow you to select the Direction and the Distance from the selected openings to place a Guide.

  • Because I clicked on the right opening, I will select Add at Left and Add at Top.

  • Enter the Distance from the opening to place the Guides and click OK.

  • The Guides are placed.

  • Right-Click on the left opening and select New Guide From Other.

  • On the Add Other Guide screen, select Add at Right and enter the desired Distance.

    • We did not select Add at Top as our top Guide has already been placed.

  • Click OK.

  • All of our Guides have been placed.

  • Now bring over a new opening to start the bottom-half of the inside opening.

  • Drag it down to the bottom to snap to the Border Line and stretch the sides of the new opening to snap against the Guides.

  • Bring over another opening and drag the top and sides to the Border Lines and the bottom to the Guide Line we placed.

  • Now drag the upper part of the bottom middle opening upwards so that it overlaps the large top opening.

  • Make sure the bottom opening is still selected.

  • Hold down the CTRL key and click on the top opening.

  • Both openings should now be selected.

  • Click on the Group Selection button.

  • The Openings are now merged together and our project is completed.

  • Using these instructions, you can great a wide variety of different designs.

NOTES:

  • Experiment with using different sized Templates.

  • Try using different Templates.

  • You can also adjust the Template’s Parameters which will give you endless creative options for your creative abilities.
