Remove Gantry Shipping Lock Screws: CMC 8000, 8500 Series and the 9000 Shipped Before July 2013

Problem/Purpose:

  • The Gantry Wheels were locked with shipping screws on boards shipped before June 1, 2013.

  • Sometimes, customers did not remove these shipping screws, which then caused a variety of cutting issues.

  • This document describes the location of these Gantry Wheel locks and how to remove them.

Unlock the Gantry Wheels

IMPORTANT: DO NOT operate the CMC without first unlocking the Gantry Wheels!

  • The Gantry Wheels were locked into place for shipping purposes on systems shipped before July 2013 with an Allen screw and washer and marked with a large tag.

  • The two screws on either side are not to be disturbed.

  • Remove the bottom Gantry Wheel Locking Allen Screw, washer and Gantry tag.

  • DO NOT REMOVE THE NEIGHBORING SCREWS.

  • You may hear/feel the Gantry Wheels snap into place.

Remove the Bottom Gantry Wheel Locking Allen Screw, Washer and Gantry Tag
  • Remove the top Gantry Wheel Locking Allen Screw, washer and Gantry tag.

  • DO NOT REMOVE THE NEIGHBORING SCREWS.

Remove the Top Gantry Wheel Locking Allen Screw, Washer and Gantry Tag
  • You may hear/feel the Gantry Wheels snap into place.

  • Place the two Allen screws and washers into the holes provided on the lower Gantry Plate.

    • It is not necessary to keep the tag.

  • The Allen screws will be used during the lifetime of the CMC, so it is important to place them here.

  • Place them so that the screw protrudes only slightly from the back of the plate.
