Set New Scale

  • Use Set New Scale to set the current scale factor for the project, such as when loading an image from a different source, like a scanner.

  • It is important to use the correct scale factor for the project image to ensure accuracy for all project measurements, such as artwork and borders size.

  • The scale factor needs to be set each time the physical distance from the camera to the work surface changes, or if a different sized image file is loaded.

  • Take a picture of an object of a known width or open an image of a known width.

  • On the Images tab, click the Set New Scale button.

  • Click and hold the left mouse button at the left edge of the object and drag the mouse across the image, releasing the mouse button at the right edge of the object.

    • Set New Scale measures only the width of the image; the height will be set proportionately to the image.

  • A window opens prompting for the width of the area selected.

  • Enter the number of inches for the width and click OK to set the new scale.

  • Optionally, click the Set As Default checkbox to save this scale as the default.

  • The initial measurement scale for the default zoom point is now set.

  • Note: If setting the scale for the camera, you will not need to set the camera scale again unless the camera is bumped or moved.

  • Note: If setting the scale for a loaded image file, you may need to set the scale for each image loaded.
