Purpose

These instructions will walk the customer through packaging up their CMC in order to move it.

Locate the Original Boxes

  • If the original boxes cannot be located, replacement boxes can be purchased from Wizard at 888/855-3335.

Straight Line Trimmer Removal

  • If your CMC has a straight line trimmer, it must be taken off in order to remove the head and gantry.

  • Turn the shut off valve on the blue air line, and unplug the blue air line by untwisting the blue air fittings.

  • Turn the bottom locking knob clockwise to loosen.

  • Turn the top locking knob counter-clockwise to loosen.

  • Slide the straight line trimmer off of the board.

ST 500 Straight Line Trimmer Packaging

  • Fold the ends of the straight line trimmer packing inserts upwards.

  • Place the trimmer face-down into the recessed area, making sure that the trimmer handle is in the middle of the trimmer and that it is folded up next to the trimmer arm.

  • Fold the ends of the packing inserts down again, covering the ends of the trimmer.

  • Secure the box with tape.

Head Removal

Caution: Head appearance may vary from model shown, but the connections are the same. Do not pick up head using the blade depth knob or the head cover. Pick up the head by holding the “D-Shaped” upper and lower head plates.

  • If the motors are engaged, click reset motors button on the cut preview and click OK on the release motors prompt.

  • Press the 0 on the rocker switch on the back of the ECU to turn off the ECU.

  • Push blade cartridge release down to eject the blade cartridge. Turn off the air.

  • Remove the gantry cover by unscrewing the screws that holds it in place and set them aside.

  • Move the gantry to the right side of the board until the foot block is off of the board.

  • For the CMC Z1, locate the M12 cable that is attached to the grabber arm.

  • Follow the M12 cable and unplug the other end from the M12 port at the top of the head, untwisting the thumbscrew to disconnect it.

  • Remove the head stop plate at the bottom of the gantry under the belt tensioner.

  • Two screws hold it in place. Set plate and screws aside.

  • Roll the head down the gantry.

  • Roll the head down the gantry until it rolls off the gantry, taking care not to drop it.

  • Replace the two 5/32” screws into the head.

Removing the ECU/Driver Pack

  • Make sure the rocker switch on the back of the ECU is on the 0 for off.

  • Unplug the power cord.

  • Disconnect the male end of the board cable from the back of the ECU by turning the locking ring and pulling gently.

  • Unplug the USB Cable from the back of the ECU/Driver Pack.

  • If you have a CMC Z1, unplug the DB9 cable from the ECU.

Secure the Gantry

The following instructions will show how to secure the Gantry.

Loosen Drive Belt

  • Move the gantry to the right side of the board about two feet from the right edge (to leave room for the packaging foam corners).

  • Remove the 5/32” Allen screws and washers from the lower gantry plate.

  • Locate the 3/16” Allen belt tensioner screw that’s located on the right bottom side of the lower rail and marked with a red dot.

  • Loosen this screw one turn only so that there is some movement in the belt tensioner.

  • The tensioner springs should be visible.

WARNING: Make sure you do not over-loosen this screw. One full turn is usually sufficient.

  • The belt tensioner should spring fully into place.

  • Locate the belt tensioner hole on the end of the belt tensioner.

  • Place the 5/32” Allen screw and washer we removed from the lower gantry plate into the belt tensioner hole.

  • Tighten the Allen screw until belt tensioner is flush with the rail and the springs are not visible.

  • Go back and tighten the 3/16” Allen belt tensioner screw.

  • Lift the drive belt end out of the belt tensioner slot.

  • Pushing the drive belt end to the right may assist in getting a hold of it.

  • Wind up the drive belt, and rubber-band it.

  • Repeat steps 4 through 8 with the upper rail.

Remove Stop Plate

  • Move the gantry far enough to the left to dislodge the belt anchors.

  • The belt anchors are sunk into the left ends of the rails and are attached to the drive belts.

  • See the instructions following for the type of Gantry Stop your machine has.

Magnetic Gantry Stop

  • Loosen the top 3/16” stop screw of the Magnetic Gantry Stop.

  • Lift up the magnetic stop plate to disengage the pin from the hole and slide the alignment plate to the left end of the rail to remove.

Silver Gantry Stop Plate

  • Remove the right front 3/16” stop screw of the silver Gantry Stop Plate and set aside.

  • Loosen the back left T-Nut screw and slide the alignment plate to the left end of the rail to remove.

Stop Screw

  • If your model only has a Stop Screw without the alignment plate, remove the stop screw.

Attaching Shipping Blocks

  • If the shipping blocks have been misplaced, please find a way to secure the gantry so that it does not move during shipment.

  • Loosely place the T-Nut onto the shipping blocks and slide onto the rail on each side of the gantry as described next.

  • Place one shipping block on either side of the gantry on top of the upper rail.

  • Tighten into place.

  • Place the other two shipping blocks on the lower rail.

  • One should be to the left side of the gantry on the underside of the bottom rail and one on the top of the bottom rail. Tighten into place.

  • Place the other shipping block to the right of the gantry on the top of the bottom rail.

Reinstall the Stop Plate

Reinstall your Gantry Stop as described below.

Magnetic Gantry Stop

  • Slide the black Magnetic Gantry Stop Plate in from the left end of the rail keeping the pin towards you.

  • Place the pin into the hole and tighten the top 3/16” stop screw.

Silver Gantry Stop Plate

  • Slide the alignment plate in from the left end of the rail and line up with the holes on the rail.

  • Tighten the back left T-Nut screw. Replace the right front 3/16” stop screw and tighten.

Stop Screw

  • If your model only has a Stop Screw without the alignment plate, replace the stop screw.

Installing the Drive Belt onto the Rail

  • Lightly pull the coiled drive belt toward the right to take up the slack and pull the belt anchor into place flush with the end of the CMC.

  • Remove the rubber-band from the drive belt and loosely lay the drive belt along the rail channel.

  • Pull the loose belt end to the right, making sure that the drive belt is not twisted and that the teeth are facing down toward the board into the rail channel.

  • Slide the screw of the belt end into the belt tensioner slot.

  • Remove the 5/32” Allen screws and washers from the belt tensioner.

  • Place the two Allen screw and washer into the holes provided on the lower gantry plate.

  • Place them so that the screw protrudes only slightly from the back of the plate.

  • Loosen one full turn only the 3/16” Allen belt tensioner screw from the right bottom side of the lower rail marked with a red dot.

  • The belt tensioner should spring fully into place.

WARNING: Make sure you do not over-loosen this screw. One full turn is usually sufficient.

  • Snugly tighten the Allen belt tensioner screw on the bottom right of upper and lower rails.

  • Repeat steps 1 through 5 with the upper rail.

  • Replace the gantry cover using the two screws removed earlier.

Head Packaging

  • Place the packaging foam in the bottom of the head box with the cradle toward the center.

  • Place the head upside down into the cradle; you may need to rotate the foot block.

  • Place the remaining portion of the head packaging foam across the bottom of the head and around each side; press into place.

  • Close and tape up the box.

Packing up the ECU/Driver Pack

  • Locate the ECU packaging foam and fold out the interior feet.

  • Place the packaging foam on each end of the ECU/Driver Pack.

  • Place the ECU/Driver Pack carefully into the ECU/Driver Pack box.

  • Place all of the ECU/Driver Pack and emergency stop cables (if applicable) into the free space and tape shut.

Boxing up the Board

  • Place the board box onto a table or other flat surface.

  • Carefully place the foam corners onto the board.

  • With the help of a second person, carefully lift the board straight up and place it into the box.

  • For the model 8500e, make sure that the foam corners are supporting the board so that the air cylinders on the back are protected.

  • Place the head box and the ECU box between the gantry and the side of the box between the foam corners.

  • Secure the board in place with additional packing material if needed.

  • Secure the box closed with banding or packing tape. The system is now ready to be moved.

  • No labels
