Loading an Image

An image may be loaded from the camera, from a local file or from the server. Click the desired button to load a new project image.

Use the menu item Options > Capture Image From to set which device is used for acquiring images.

Once the desired image(s) is loaded, click the Next button on the upper left menubar to continue.

Note that these buttons are to load an image. To load a project, refer to the File menu.

Loading More than One Image

Click on one of the load image buttons and load an image.

Each image is loaded into a separate tab at the top of the editor screen. This allows selecting mouldings from one image, matboard from another image, and so on.

Acquire from Camera

Click on Acquire from Camera if there is a camera or TWAIN device attached to the system.

The camera remote capture screen opens where the user can make selections before taking the photo.

Use Color Profile

To use a profile with the camera:

Select the Use Color Profile checkbox.

Select the desired color profile from the dropdown control.

See Create Color Profile for more information on color profiles.

Note: Color profiles are applied to the image taken by the camera which is then displayed on the IF Visualization editor. The color profiles are not applied to the preview screen.

Manual Camera Adjustment

To adjust camera settings manually, have Use Color Profile unchecked, then make adjustments on the remote capture screen before taking the photo. The Wizard Camera Settings and Canon Camera Settings section follows with individual setting information.

Zoom Level: Slide the zoom control (move the slider left to zoom out, right to zoom in) until satisfied with the preview display.

Wizard Camera Settings:

Brightness: Move the slider to the right to make the image brighter, and left to make the image darker.

Contrast: Contrast is the difference in brightness between the light and dark areas of the picture. Move the slider to the right to increase the contrast, and left to decrease the contrast.

Saturation: Saturation is the vividness of a color’s hue. Saturation measures the degree to which a color differs from a gray of the same darkness or lightness. Move the slider to the right to increase the saturation, and left to decrease the saturation.

Gamma: Gamma is the numerical value of the slope of the characteristic curve of a photographic emulsion; a measure of the contrast reproduced in a photographic image. Move the slider to the right to increase the gamma, and left to decrease the gamma.

White Balance: White balance refers to the adjustment of the relative amounts of red, green, and blue primary colors in an image such that neutral colors are reproduced correctly. Move the slider to the right to increase the white balance, and left to decrease the white balance.

Exposure: Exposure is the amount of radiant energy needed to expose a photographic film. Move the slider to the right to increase the exposure, and left to decrease the exposure.

Canon Camera Settings:

White Balance: White balance refers to the adjustment of the relative amounts of red, green, and blue primary colors in an image such that neutral colors are reproduced correctly. Select the desired white balance: Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Fluorescent H (Halogen), Flash, Custom.

Exposure Compensation: Exposure compensation is a technique for adjusting the exposure indicated in consideration of various lighting factors that may cause the indicated exposure to result in a less-than-optimal image. Select the value desired for the camera.

Metering Mode: Metering Mode allows the user to select the most appropriate one for use in a variety of lighting conditions. Evaluative, Center-Weighted Averaging, Spot.

ISO Speed: ISO Speed ratings of a digital camera are based on the properties of the sensor and the image processing done in the camera. Select the ISO speed for the camera.

Take Picture

Click Take Picture to take the picture with the camera.

Load From File

Click Load from File to load an image from a file.

The open image screen becomes visible.

Click on the desired image file.
Preview image file on right panel.

Click Open to open the image.

New Scale

If the image file loaded is a different size than the last file loaded, a screen prompting to set the new scale factor for this image will display.

Click Yes to set a new scale (see Step 1: Options: Set New Scale for more information).

Click No to skip setting a new scale.

Load From Server

This feature is a part of the IF Retail Management software. This is identical to Load From File except user is loading from a server.

Click Load From Server to load an image from the server.

The load from server screen opens.

Click on the desired image file.
Image file is previewed on the preview panel on right.

Click Ok to open the image.

Load Options: Set New Scale

It is important to use the correct scale factor for the project image to ensure accuracy for all project measurements, such as artwork and borders size. The scale factor needs to be changed each time the zoom changes or the physical distance from the camera to the work surface changes, or a different sized image file is loaded.

Use Set New Scale to change the current scale factor for the project.

Take a picture or open an image containing an object of a known width.

Click Set New Scale.

Click and hold the left mouse button at the left edge of the object, and drag the mouse across, releasing the mouse button at the right end of the object.

A window opens prompting for the width measurement - enter the number of inches that were measured into this box.

Click OK to set the new scale.
The initial measurement scale for the default zoom point is now set. The status bar displays the dpi of the current image in the lower right corner.

HINT: Lay a ruler down before taking the picture makes it easier when setting a new scale.

Clear Regions

Clears and resets all of the applied mat and moulding sample regions and selections.

Load Sample

Click Load Sample 1 or Load Sample 2 to load a completed sample project to view and/or edit.

The sample button loads the completed project directly to Step 3 to visualize.

Click Previous to return to Step 2 to edit it if desired.

Click Next

When the desired image(s) are displayed on the editor, click Next on the upper left of the menu bar.
